Description

The first film, in what will be a continuing film series, is Babette's Feast, a 1987 Academy Award Winner for Best Foreign Film. We'll start the screening at 6:30 p.m. Please join us!

“Babette’s Feast” is set in a small fishing village on Denmark’s remote Jutland coast in the second half of the 19th century. A zealous Protestant pastor with a reformist mission, and his two lovely daughters, minister to a small but fervent congregation. The subservient daughters both decline marriage propositions and, after their father’s death, carry on their father’s work with saintly dedication. Time passes and, on a stormy night, the now aging sisters have a stranger, Babette, turn up at their door, with a letter of introduction from one of the sisters’ former suitors. She requires political sanctuary and the nearly penniless sisters accept Babette into their household as an unpaid housekeeper. Babette’s management of the household dislodges the sisters’ routine and, when Fortune smiles upon her, she prepares the unforgettable Babette’s Feast.
