The Forest Lodge Library continues its My Favorite Films series on Thursday, May 13th at 6:30 with a screening of the film Arranged.
Two young teachers at a public school in Brooklyn, one an Orthodox Jew, the other a Muslim of Syrian origin have more in common than a teaching career. Both are going through the process of having a marriage “arranged” as is the custom in their
respective religious traditions. With family pressure on the one hand and questions and ridicule from the outside world on the other, the women come to rely on their growing friendship for strength and support, striving to maintain their deeply felt religious and cultural convictions while taking responsibility for their own careers and happiness.
This sweet and sensitive movie offers insight into these living religious traditions and an ages old custom not much in favor in modern America. While this film is not rated, it is suitable for all audiences, although the themes of thoughtful marriage and personal responsbility may not ge of much interest to younger children.
