Description
Join us for our inaugural Documentary Night! We'll be screening the 2009 Academy Award winner in the documentary category: The Cove. Remember Flipper? The 1960's television series that featured an amazing dolphin? Kind of like an oceanic version of Lassie. The man who trained those dolphins had an epiphany in the aftermath of t.v. fame. Dolphins, even though they're highly trainable and SEEM to like humans, are meant to be free, wild beings and are much happier in the company of their own kind. In his years of doing advocacy work, trying to free captive dolphins (since he felt a great deal of responsibility for popularizing them) he came to learn about The Cove in Taiji, Japan where, in season, thousands of dolphins are herded into a deep cove where they're either captured and sold to zoos or amusement parks...or slaughtered for meat. He assembles a group of dedicated people, determined to document these practices and make them public. The Cove is part documentary, part spy/thriller and entirely engaging. Hope you can join us!
